Mumbai : The ambassador of Spain in India Gustavo Arístegui said today there is a lot of “hunger” for learning Spanish language here and that his country is in talks with the union HRD Ministry to introduce Spanish at the higher secondary level in schools in the country.
The Spanish ambassador Gustavo de Arístegui was speaking to the Governor of Maharashtra CH Vidyasagar Rao at Raj Bhavan .

Gustavo de Arístegui said that , According to most estimates, Spanish is the mother tongue of more than 400 million people around the globe, which equates to approximately six percent of the world’s population. Learning a second language helps boost your memory and keeps your mind sharp. The Spanish language is becoming increasingly globalized and is regarded as the most commonly understood language in the western hemisphere, due to its prominent use in South America.
Arístegui said Rao that his country is also keen to establish a Spanish Department either in the Savitribai Phule University of Pune or in the Mumbai university that would provide students Diplomas of Spanish as a foreign language.
The Governor welcomed the suggestion of the Spanish ambassador Gustavo de Arístegui. And also ordered for the establishment of a Spanish Department. This will result in students coming forward to study Spanish language. This helps when students pursue higher education in other foreign countries.
Gustavo de Arístegui the Spanish ambassador to India, also said that there should be a definite push toward the linguistics in Indian culture, helping the youth to adapt versatile opportunities worldwide
